From $800 retainers and zero systems to building a Philadelphia-based agency with six-month contracts and a growing team.

Shelby is one of those humans who just radiates talent. Based out of Philadelphia, she started her career as a photographer — 13 years behind the lens, shooting everything from family portraits to fashion editorials.

But something was missing.

“I realized a lot of businesses, even if they had great photos, had no idea how to use them or market themselves,” Shelby told me. “I started teaching myself about marketing from the ground up and found that I had a deep love for it.”

That love turned into a full pivot — from photographer to full-service marketing strategist. And that pivot eventually led her to the Charm Collective.

Where She Started

When Shelby first joined us, she was charging $800-$1,200 per retainer and working with three or four clients. Revenue? About $2,500 a month.

She had the talent. She had the aesthetic eye from 13 years of photography. What she didn’t have were the systems — the proposals, the contracts, the lead generation strategy, the onboarding process. Everything was based on referrals, and she was the ultimate “yes woman.”

“I didn’t even send out proposals before,” she admitted. “All my clients were referrals, so I just kind of became the yes man. We didn’t really set anything up.”

The Transformation

Shelby did something that puts her in the top 1% of our members: she watched every single piece of education in our portal. Every video, every training, every resource.

And then she implemented. For eight months straight.

The result? Her retainers went from $800 to $1,500-$2,000. But more importantly, her packages were refined — she was doing half the work for more money because she stopped saying yes to everything and started selling her actual expertise.

“The packages that I was charging $1,500 before had like double the amount of stuff,” she explained. “My packages are a lot more refined now. I’m doing the work that balances.”

She’s now up 110% in revenue year-over-year, has six-month contracts instead of month-to-month, and just made her first two hires.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

For Shelby, the biggest transformation wasn’t tactical — it was mental.

“Before I joined, I didn’t have a community. I never worked a 9-to-5, so I never had marketing friends. Having the mindset work, the positivity behind even just celebrating a win at the start of every call — it really helps center me.”

She also learned to fire bad-fit clients — something that terrified her at first. “I would avoid conflict at all costs, and saying no felt like conflict.”

But then something clicked: “I remember standing up for myself to one client, and the respect I got from him — he looked at me like an expert.”

That moment changed everything. She started saying no on sales calls when something wasn’t the right fit. And every time she let go of a problem client, better ones appeared.

“My fiancé said from an outside perspective, every time you let go of one of those problem clients, you got like three more wonderful clients.”

What She’d Tell You

When I asked Shelby what she’d say to anyone on the fence about investing in coaching, her answer was instant:

“Just take the leap. Genuinely just take the leap. Because it’s changed me so much — I don’t even know her. All the fears I had were disarmed the second I talked to the team. The investment is an investment, not an expense. What I’ve learned in the past year and a half would have taken me six years to gain on my own.”

She also shared something powerful about the in-person events: “If you’re on the fence, come in person. When I came to Brooklyn last year, the second you step in a room, you feel how genuine and amazing it is. There were tears.”

Where She’s Headed

Shelby’s vision isn’t about hitting some arbitrary revenue number. It’s about freedom — building a business that supports the life she wants.

“I want to be able to be a mom who, when that time comes, can be home and around and have that freedom in life that you don’t get from a traditional job.”

She’s planning her wedding in Mexico, working from wherever she wants, and building a team that allows her to step into the CEO role she was always meant for.

From $2,500/month and no systems to a growing agency with a team, six-month contracts, and the confidence to say no. That’s the Charm Collective effect.
