Top-Down and Bottom-Up

Marcy uses what she calls a “top-down and bottom-up” approach — and it’s different from any mindset work I’d seen before.

Top-down is the cognitive stuff. It’s identifying limiting beliefs, rewriting your money stories, journaling, affirmations — the things most people think of when they hear “mindset work.”

Bottom-up is the body-based work. This is where it gets really interesting. We’re talking about nervous system regulation — teaching your body that it’s safe to be successful, visible, and wealthy.

Because here’s the truth: you can affirm yourself all day long, but if your nervous system is in fight-or-flight every time you get on a sales call, your words don’t matter. Your body is running the show.

Practical Tools That Actually Work

Some of the tools Marcy teaches our members that have been absolute game-changers:

Somatic shaking. Literally shaking your body for 2-3 minutes to release stored stress and tension. It sounds weird until you try it before a big sales call and suddenly feel calm and grounded.

EFT tapping. Tapping on specific meridian points while acknowledging your fears out loud. “Even though I’m afraid to charge $3,000, I deeply and completely accept myself.” It rewires the emotional charge around money conversations.

Vagus nerve stimulation. Simple techniques like cold water on your face, humming, or deep belly breathing that activate your parasympathetic nervous system — taking you from “fight or flight” to “rest and create.”

Identifying your patterns. Are you a fighter (overworking, grinding, hustle culture)? A flighter (avoiding sales calls, ghosting leads)? A freezer (paralysis, overthinking, stuck in planning mode)? Or a fawner (people-pleasing, undercharging, over-delivering)? Each pattern requires a different approach.

The Money Story Rewrite

One of the most powerful exercises we do in the Charm Collective is the money story rewrite. Most of us inherited beliefs about money from our families, our culture, our experiences. Things like:

“Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
“Rich people are greedy.”
“You have to work hard for every dollar.”
“Who am I to charge that much?”

These aren’t just thoughts. They’re programs running in the background of every business decision you make. Every time you discount your price, every time you over-deliver without charging more, every time you avoid the money conversation — that’s your money story in action.

Rewriting it doesn’t happen overnight. But it starts with awareness. And it accelerates dramatically when you have a coach like Marcy helping you see the patterns you can’t see yourself.
