Client Spotlight: How Maddie Built a $17K/Month Agency Fresh Out of College

February 25, 2026

Lucy Stevens

She graduated with a sustainability degree, had never worked a 9-to-5, and built a multi-six-figure digital marketing agency before her second year in business.

If there’s one person who embodies what’s possible when you bet on yourself, it’s Maddie.

She graduated from college in 2023 with a master’s degree in sustainability. Not marketing. Not business. Sustainability. She’d never had a traditional job. She had one freelance client paying her $3,500 a month — just enough to cover her bills in Arizona.

Fast forward less than two years: Maddie hit a $17,000 month with four clients and a profit margin that would make most agency owners jealous.

Here’s how it happened.

The Origin Story

Maddie’s path into marketing wasn’t traditional — which is exactly what makes her so good at it.

While studying sustainability, she was doing field trips to sustainable businesses around Phoenix, creating content to highlight their missions. One day, a business owner asked her: “What’s your dream job in sustainability?”

“Honestly, I love doing what I’m doing right now — helping sustainable brands share their mission,” Maddie realized. “There’s a huge gap in that space. You can’t just say it’s good for the environment. You have to add value beyond the mission.”

That insight — that purpose-driven brands still need strategic marketing, not just passion — became the foundation of her entire business.

The Six-Month Struggle

Maddie found us through Instagram ads (of course). She stalked, joined the Facebook group, and got on a call with Emma. She was all in.

And then she talked to her parents.

“Both my parents are entrepreneurs,” Maddie explained. “They had that ‘pull the bootstraps up, do it on your own’ mindset. They were like, ‘You haven’t even tried to build this on your own yet.’”

So she tried. For six months.

“I made no progress. I was going through the post-college existential crisis. I didn’t know if I even liked what I was doing.”

When we came back across her feed, she didn’t hesitate. “Before I was even on the call with Emma the second time, I’d already made my decision.”

Her analogy was perfect: “It’s like the Disney FastPass. If you can pay to skip the line and someone who knows exactly where you are gives you the blueprint, why would you take the long way?”

The Results

Within her first month, Maddie upsold her first client from a social-media-only package to a full-service digital marketing retainer — more than tripling the revenue from that single client.

Within two months, she had her first nearly-$10K month with just two full-service clients.

Within four months: $17,000.

And here’s the part that really impressed me: her profit margin. Out of that $17K month, she paid $3,400 in team expenses and kept $13,500+ in profit.

For context — when I hit my first $18K month, my bookkeeper told me I couldn’t pay myself anything. The fact that Maddie is earning $17K and keeping $13K+ is absolutely next level.

The Secret: Full-Service, Not Just Social

One thing that sets Maddie apart is her full-service approach. She doesn’t just manage Instagram — she handles social media, email, website, and overall digital strategy.

“If our social strategy is 10 out of 10 but the website sucks, that’s not going to work for me,” she explained. “If I can have a little hand in all of them, I know the cohesiveness of the strategy is going to work a lot better.”

This is something we teach inside the Charm Collective: the more strategic value you provide, the more you can charge and the stickier your clients become. When you’re responsible for the full marketing ecosystem, you’re not a vendor — you’re an indispensable partner.

Mission-Driven and Proud of It

What makes Maddie truly special is her commitment to working with impact-driven brands. Her vision? To become the number-one full-service digital marketing agency for mission-driven businesses.

She even wants to start an internship program connecting college students with nonprofits — giving students real-world experience while providing nonprofits with high-level marketing support they couldn’t otherwise afford.

“I had this full imposter syndrome moment early on,” she shared. “I was like, I’m just making people money and that doesn’t feel good. So I knew from the start that my mission would be bigger.”

Her Advice to You

“You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be the expert right away. You just have to be delusional enough to tell yourself you’re going to make it work and nothing is going to stop you. Mentorship was the change for me. Betting on yourself is always going to be the best investment because you’re in control.”

From a $3,500/month solo freelancer with a sustainability degree to running a $17K/month agency from Hawaii. In under two years. At 24 years old.

Dream bigger, indeed.
